About Sand Dollar Reef
Sand Dollar Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where placed structure on the bottom concentrates reef fish and draws pelagic predators. Red Snapper peak from April through July, and Greater Amberjack peak in April and May, while King Mackerel hold over the reef from April through October. Gray Snapper peak from May through August, and Gag Grouper peak from October through December alongside Red Grouper. Bottom fishing with live pinfish, cigar minnows, or cut bait works the structure for snapper and grouper, and live hardtail (blue runner) dropped to the reef targets amberjack. Above the structure, slow trolling with live cigar minnows, live menhaden, or live blue runners covers the water column for King Mackerel.
