About Sandflea Reef
Sandflea Reef is an artificial reef off Destin, Florida, within the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Gray Snapper hold on the structure from May through August, while Gag Grouper peak from October through December and Sheepshead take over from January through March. Bottom fishing drives the reef action, with live pinfish and cut cigar minnows for snapper, live grunts for grouper, and sand fleas or fiddler crabs for sheepshead. Higher in the water column, King Mackerel run from April through October and respond to slow trolling with live cigar minnows or live menhaden. Spanish Mackerel move through from March through October and take small spoons on the troll, while Cobia arrive March through June and again in September and October for anglers sight casting bucktail jigs or live eels.
