About Santa Clara Center Patch Reef
Santa Clara Center Patch Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf state waters off Destin, Florida, part of the Panhandle Region's network of placed structure. The reef draws Spanish mackerel from March through October and king mackerel from April through October, and anglers target both by trolling small spoons and diving plugs or by slow trolling live cigar minnows across the structure. Gag grouper peak from October through December and gray snapper from May through August, and both respond to bottom fishing with live pinfish worked tight to the reef. Sheepshead hold on the structure from January through March and take fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp fished on the bottom. Cobia move through from March to June and again in September and October, and sight casting bucktail jigs or live eels to fish cruising near the reef puts them on the line.
