About Sunset Cove
Sunset Cove is a protected inner bay in Destin, Florida, with a sand bottom that runs from 5 to 25 feet deep. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, when bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas produces steady bites. Spotted seatrout peak in March and April and again in October and November, and drifting with live shrimp, popping cork rigs, or paddle tail swimbaits covers the sandy stretches. Red drum move through from September to November, and Spanish mackerel hold in the area from March through October, when trolling small spoons or casting metal jigs to breaking fish connects with feeding schools. Gray snapper and common snook round out the species mix in these sheltered, shallow waters.
