About USS ZEPHYR (PC 8) Reef
The USS ZEPHYR (PC 8) Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where the sunken vessel's structure holds bottom fish and draws pelagic predators. Red Snapper peak from April through July and Gray Snapper from May through August, and both respond to bottom fishing with cigar minnows, squid, live pinfish and cut bait worked tight to the wreck. Greater Amberjack stack over the structure in April and May and take live hardtail (blue runner) or live pinfish dropped to the reef, with vertical jigging using butterfly jigs or knife jigs as a productive alternative. King Mackerel run from April through October and hit slow-trolled live cigar minnows, live menhaden and live blue runners pulled along the edges of the reef. Red Grouper hold on the structure, and Gag Grouper peak from October through December, when bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts or cut bait targets fish holding close to the wreck.
