About Weekley Bayou
Weekley Bayou is a protected inner bay near Destin, Florida, with a soft mud bottom and depths running 5 to 10 feet. Sheepshead headline the cold months, peaking January through March, while Spotted Seatrout move through in two windows, March–April and October–November. Red Drum peak from September through November, and Spanish Mackerel push in from March through October, with Gray Snapper and Common Snook rounding out the lineup. Bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas works the mud bottom for Sheepshead, and live shrimp or live pinfish fished on the bottom draws both Spotted Seatrout and Red Drum. When Spanish Mackerel break the surface, anglers cast metal jigs, gotcha plugs, or small spoons into the feeding fish.
