About FWC Rock 1 Reef
FWC Rock 1 Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Atlantic State Waters of the Southeast Region, off the Fort Lauderdale coast. The structure holds a mixed lineup of reef and pelagic species, led by Mutton Snapper from March through June, Yellowtail Snapper from April through July, and Gray Snapper in June and July. Common Snook peak from May through July, King Mackerel move through from January to March, and Crevalle Jack patrol the reef as well. Bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the base of the structure for Mutton and Gray Snapper, while chumming and drift fishing with glass minnows or cut ballyhoo draws Yellowtail Snapper up off the reef. In the winter window, slow trolling live goggle eyes or blue runners around the reef's edges targets King Mackerel.
