About Hillsboro Bay
Hillsboro Bay is a protected inshore bay near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a mixed bottom and depths from 5 to 15 feet. Common Snook lead the target list, peaking May through July, while Gray Snapper peak June through July, Mutton Snapper March through June, and Yellowtail Snapper April through July. King Mackerel peak January through March, and Crevalle Jack round out the species mix. Live bait drifting with live shrimp, live pilchards, live mullet, or live pinfish is the dominant approach for snook across the bay's shallow, sheltered water. Over the mixed bottom, bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, or squid takes Gray and Mutton Snapper, and jigging with bucktail jigs or soft plastic jigs covers the same ground.
