About Hillsboro Bay Hump
Hillsboro Bay Hump is a rock pinnacle rising off the exposed outer waters near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with depths running from 45 to 85 feet across its slopes and crown. Mutton Snapper peak here from March through June, Yellowtail Snapper from April through July, and Gray Snapper in June and July, while Common Snook move onto the structure from May through July and King Mackerel peak from January through March. Bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, cut bait, or live pilchards works the rocky base for Mutton Snapper. Chumming and drift fishing with glass minnows or cut ballyhoo draws Yellowtail Snapper up off the pinnacle. Over the deeper edges, slow trolling live goggle eyes, threadfin herring, or blue runners targets King Mackerel, and Crevalle Jack also roam the hump.
