About Hillsboro River Hump
Hillsboro River Hump is a rock pinnacle off Fort Lauderdale, rising from exposed outer waters in 45 to 85 feet along Florida's southeast Atlantic coast. Mutton Snapper peak from March through June and Yellowtail Snapper from April through July, while Gray Snapper hit their stride in June and July alongside Common Snook from May through July. King Mackerel take over the hump from January through March, and Crevalle Jack roam the structure as well. Bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, or cut bait works the rock edges for muttons and grays, and chumming and drift fishing with glass minnows or cut ballyhoo pulls yellowtail up off the pinnacle. For kings, slow trolling live goggle eyes, threadfin herring, or blue runners across the top of the hump covers the depth change where bait stacks on the exposed face.
