About New River Sound

New River Sound is a protected sand-bottom corridor that winds through Fort Lauderdale toward Florida's southeast Atlantic coast, sheltered from open-ocean exposure. Common Snook peak from May through July, and live bait drifting with live shrimp, live pilchards, live mullet, or live pinfish works the sandy channel edges where they hold. Gray Snapper peak in June and July, Mutton Snapper from March through June, and Yellowtail Snapper from April through July, with bottom fishing over the sand using live shrimp, cut bait, or squid accounting for the snapper bite. King Mackerel move through from January to March, when slow trolling live goggle eyes, live threadfin herring, or live blue runners targets them along the corridor. Crevalle Jack round out the mix, crashing bait throughout the protected water.
