About North North Island Hump
North North Island Hump is a rock pinnacle rising to 10–25 feet on the outer, exposed Atlantic edge off Miami, within Florida's Southeast Region state waters. The rocky high spot holds Common Snook, Gray Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper, all peaking May through July, along with Mutton Snapper from April through June and Crevalle Jack. Bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the base of the hump for Gray and Mutton Snapper. Chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows draws Yellowtail Snapper up off the structure, while live bait drifting with live pilchards or live mullet targets snook along the rock. From November through March, King Mackerel move over the hump and respond to slow trolling with live blue runners or live goggle eyes.
