About South Hillsboro Bay Hump
South Hillsboro Bay Hump is an exposed rock pinnacle off Fort Lauderdale, Florida, rising from surrounding bottom in 45 to 85 feet of water within the Southeast Region of Florida's Atlantic state waters. The hump draws a mixed reef and pelagic lineup, with King Mackerel peaking January through March, Mutton Snapper March through June, Yellowtail Snapper April through July, Common Snook May through July, and Gray Snapper June through July, while Crevalle Jack also roam the structure. Bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the rock for Mutton and Gray Snapper, and chumming with glass minnows while drifting cut ballyhoo or live shrimp pulls Yellowtail Snapper up off the pinnacle. King Mackerel respond to slow trolling with live goggle eyes, live threadfin herring, live pilchards, or live blue runners along the edges of the hump. Snook anglers drift live pilchards, live mullet, or live pinfish across the rock, and bucktail jigs or swimbaits cover the deeper slopes.
