About Stranahan River
The Stranahan River is a protected tidal corridor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where a mud bottom holds 10 to 20 feet of water between sheltered banks. Common Snook lead the target list, peaking from May through July, with live bait drifting using live shrimp, live pilchards, live mullet, or live pinfish as the dominant approach along the channel. Gray Snapper peak in June and July and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, or squid worked along the deeper mud stretches of the corridor. Mutton Snapper run strongest from March through June and Yellowtail Snapper from April through July, while King Mackerel peak from January through March. Crevalle Jack round out the species mix and push through the inner, protected water alongside the snook and snapper.
