About Yamato Rock
Yamato Rock is an exposed rock drop-off off Fort Lauderdale in Florida's southeast Atlantic waters, where the bottom falls from 260 to 660 feet along hard structure. Mutton Snapper peak from March through June and Yellowtail Snapper from April through July, while Gray Snapper peak in June and July and Common Snook from May through July. King Mackerel hold over the edge from January through March, and Crevalle Jack also patrol the structure. Bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the rocky ledge for muttons and gray snapper, and chumming and drift fishing with glass minnows or cut ballyhoo draws yellowtail up off the drop. For kingfish, anglers slow troll live goggle eyes, threadfin herring, or blue runners along the outer face of the rock.
