About Almirante Reef
Almirante Reef is an artificial reef in federal Atlantic waters off southeast Florida, east of Miami. Mutton snapper peak here from April through June, and anglers target them with bottom fishing using live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid, with jigging bucktail jigs as a supporting approach. Dorado move through from March to July and respond to trolled rigged ballyhoo and skirted trolling lures. Wahoo peak from September through December, when high-speed trolling with bullet-head lures and weighted trolling lures covers ground around the structure. King mackerel take over from November through March on slow-trolled live goggle eyes and live blue runners, while greater amberjack and black grouper hold tight to the reef structure.
