About Dumfounding Bay Reef
Dumfounding Bay Reef is an artificial reef off the Miami coast in Florida's Southeast Region Atlantic state waters, where placed structure concentrates reef fish and passing predators. Common Snook, Gray Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper peak from May through July, Mutton Snapper peaks from April through June, and King Mackerel take over from November through March, with Crevalle Jack also working the structure. Over the reef, bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid targets Gray and Mutton Snapper, while chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows draws Yellowtail Snapper up from the structure. Snook respond to live bait drifting with live pilchards, live shrimp, or live mullet. In the cooler months, slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live ballyhoo near the reef targets King Mackerel.
