About Limestone Boulder Piles 1-5 Reef

Limestone Boulder Piles 1-5 Reef is an artificial reef of placed limestone boulders in the Florida Atlantic State Waters off Miami. The rock piles hold Gray Snapper and Yellowtail Snapper, both peaking May through July, along with Mutton Snapper, which peak April through June. Common Snook also peak May through July, while King Mackerel arrive in the cooler months of November through March, and Crevalle Jack patrol the structure as well. Over the boulders, anglers fish for Gray Snapper and Mutton Snapper on the bottom with cut bait, squid and live pilchards, and they draw Yellowtail Snapper up off the piles by chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows. For King Mackerel in winter, slow trolling live blue runners, live goggle eyes or live ballyhoo near the reef works the open water surrounding the rock.
