About Osborne Reef

Osborne Reef is an artificial reef in Florida's Southeast Region state waters off the Miami-area coast, where placed structure concentrates bait and reef fish. Common Snook, Gray Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper peak from May through July, Mutton Snapper peaks from April through June, and King Mackerel take over as the cool-season target from November through March. Snapper anglers work the structure with bottom fishing, using live pilchards, live shrimp, and cut bait for Gray Snapper, while chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows draws Yellowtail Snapper up off the reef. Mutton Snapper respond to live ballyhoo and squid fished tight to the bottom, and snook favor live bait drifting with live pilchards, live mullet, or live pinfish along the reef edges. In winter, slow trolling live goggle eyes and live blue runners around the structure targets King Mackerel, and Crevalle Jack roam the area through the year.
