About Site C Reef

Site C Reef is an artificial reef in the Atlantic waters off Southeast Florida, part of the Miami-area reef system within the Florida Atlantic State Waters Southeast Region. The structure holds a mixed snapper population, with Yellowtail Snapper and Gray Snapper peaking from May through July and Mutton Snapper peaking from April through June. Common Snook also peak in the May–July window, Crevalle Jack roam the reef, and King Mackerel take over as the main pelagic target from November through March. Snapper anglers work the reef with bottom fishing rigs baited with live shrimp, cut ballyhoo, live pilchards, or squid, and chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows draws Yellowtail Snapper up off the structure. For King Mackerel, slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards along the edges of the reef is the dominant approach, with kite fishing live baits as a supporting method.
