About Bear Point
Bear Point is an outer, exposed drop-off off Naples, Florida, in the Southwest Region of Florida's Gulf state waters, where mixed bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Sheepshead peak from January through March and Spotted Seatrout from February through April, while Common Snook run from April through July and Tarpon hold from March through August. Gray Snapper peak from May through July, Red Drum move through in September and October, and Spanish Mackerel show in two windows, March to April and September to November. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas works the mixed structure along the ledge for Sheepshead, and live pilchards or cut bait take Gray Snapper holding on the same edge. Jigging with bucktail jigs and jig-head soft plastics covers the drop for Snook and Red Drum, and anglers cast small spoons and jigs to Spanish Mackerel feeding over the break.
