About Big Marco River
Big Marco River is a protected inshore bay waterway near Naples, Florida, where mud bottom holds 5 to 10 feet of water sheltered from open Gulf exposure. Sheepshead lead the winter bite from January through March, while spotted seatrout peak from February through April. Common snook and tarpon carry the warm months, with snook strongest April through July and tarpon from March through August, as gray snapper fill in from May through July. Red drum peak in September and October, and Spanish mackerel move through in March and April and again from September through November. Bottom fishing with live shrimp or fiddler crabs targets sheepshead and gray snapper over the mud, while live bait fishing with live pilchards or pinfish draws snook, red drum, and tarpon in the same depths.
