About Caxambas Pass 2.5 Mile Reef
Caxambas Pass 2.5 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf state waters off Naples, within the Southwest Region. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, and gag grouper take over from October through December. Gray snapper peak from May through July, while Spanish mackerel run strongest in March and April and again from September through November, with cobia and king mackerel also working the structure. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas tight to the reef draws sheepshead, and live pinfish or live grunts dropped to the bottom target gag grouper holding on the structure. Above the reef, casting small spoons and jigs or chumming with live shrimp and scaled sardines pulls Spanish mackerel within range.
