About Marco 9 Mile Reef
Marco 9 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Florida, west of Marco Island and south of Naples. The structure holds Gag Grouper, Red Grouper, Red Snapper, Gray Snapper, Greater Amberjack, and King Mackerel. Gag Grouper peak from October through December, when bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts, live sardines, or cut bait works tight to the reef. Jigging with bucktail jigs, metal jigs, or soft plastic swimbaits and trolling deep-diving plugs along the edges also produce gags. Gray Snapper peak from May through July and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, live pilchards, or squid, especially when a frozen chum block or cut sardines draw them up off the structure.
