About Marco Island 2 Mile Reef
Marco Island 2 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in the Southwest Region of Florida's Gulf state waters off Marco Island, south of Naples. Sheepshead peak from January through March, and anglers target them with bottom fishing using live shrimp, fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or oysters and clams, with jig heads tipped with shrimp as a supporting option. Gag Grouper move onto the reef structure from October through December, when bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts, live sardines, or cut bait works the hard bottom, and bucktail jigs or metal jigs add a jigging alternative. Spanish Mackerel run in two windows, March through April and September through November, and anglers cast small spoons, jigs, and soft plastics over the reef or draw fish up by chumming with live shrimp, scaled sardines, and threadfin herring. Gray Snapper peak from May through July and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, live pilchards, or squid, while Cobia and King Mackerel also cruise the reef.
