About Marco Island 5 Mile Reef
Marco Island 5 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf State Waters off Naples, within the Southwest Region. Sheepshead peak from January through March and hold tight to the structure, where bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or oysters and clams targets them, along with jig heads tipped with shrimp. Gag Grouper peak from October through December, and anglers drop live pinfish, live grunts, or live sardines to the bottom or work bucktail jigs and metal jigs around the reef. Spanish Mackerel run in two windows, March through April and September through November, and anglers cast small spoons and jigs or chum with live shrimp, scaled sardines, and threadfin herring to bring them up over the reef. Gray Snapper peak from May through July and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, and squid, while Cobia and King Mackerel also roam the structure.
