About Railroad Islet
Railroad Islet is a protected inshore sand flat near Naples, Florida, holding 5 to 10 feet of water within the sheltered backwaters of the southwest Gulf coast. Winter and early spring bring Sheepshead from January through March and Spotted Seatrout from February through April, while Common Snook peak from April through July and Tarpon run from March through August. Gray Snapper fill the summer months from May through July, Red Drum take over in September and October, and Spanish Mackerel show in two pulses, March through April and September through November. Across the sand bottom, anglers bottom fish live shrimp, fiddler crabs, and sand fleas for Sheepshead and drift soft plastic paddle tails on jigheads or popping corks with soft plastics for Spotted Seatrout. For Snook and Tarpon, live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, and live mullet is the dominant approach, with Red Drum also taking live shrimp and cut mullet worked along the flat.
