About Railroad Shoals
Railroad Shoals is an exposed sand flat off Naples, Florida, in the southwest Gulf state waters, with depths running 5 to 10 feet. Red drum peak here in September and October, and they respond to live bait fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, pinfish, or cut mullet, along with gold spoons and weedless soft plastics. Spotted seatrout peak from February through April and hold to the sand bottom, where live shrimp under a popping cork and soft plastic paddle tails on jigheads work across the shallows. Sheepshead peak in January through March on bottom fishing setups baited with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp. Common snook move across the flat from April through July and tarpon from March through August, and anglers target both with live pilchards, live pinfish, and live mullet.
