About Ramsey Key
Ramsey Key is an outer, exposed drop-off near Naples, Florida, where a mixed bottom falls away into 10 to 25 feet of water along the Gulf's southwest coast. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, overlapping with Spotted Seatrout from February through April, while Spanish Mackerel push through in March and April and again from September through November. Common Snook peak from April through July, Gray Snapper from May through July, and Tarpon hold from March through August before Red Drum take over in September and October. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas works the mixed structure along the ledge for Sheepshead and Gray Snapper, and bottom bouncing bucktail jigs in the deeper sections targets Seatrout. Along the exposed edge, casting small spoons and jigs draws strikes from Spanish Mackerel, and live bait fishing with threadfin herring, pinfish, or mullet produces Snook and Tarpon.
