About Alligator Bayou
Alligator Bayou is a shallow, protected mud-bottom corridor near Pensacola, Florida, in the Panhandle region of the Gulf state waters, with depths running from 0 to 5 feet. Red Drum peak here in September and October and respond to inshore casting with gold spoons, soft plastic jerkbaits, and jigheads with paddletails worked across the soft bottom. Sheepshead take over from January through March, and bottom fishing with fiddler crabs or live shrimp is the dominant approach. Gray Snapper hold through the summer peak of May to August and take live shrimp or live finger mullet fished tight to the bottom, while Spanish Mackerel move through from April to October and hit metal jigs and small spoons cast along the corridor. Common Snook round out the species mix in this sheltered, inner-protected water.
