About Bass Hole Cove
Bass Hole Cove is a protected inner bay pocket near Pensacola, Florida, with a sand bottom that runs 5 to 15 feet deep in sheltered water. Red Drum peak here from September through October, and anglers work the sand flats by inshore casting with soft plastic jerkbaits, jigheads with paddletails, gold spoons, and topwater plugs, or by drifting live shrimp under a popping cork. Sheepshead take over from January through March, when bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, sand fleas, and oysters is the standard approach. Gray Snapper hold in the cove from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, live pinfish, and squid. Spanish Mackerel run from April through October and fall to trolled small spoons and straw rigs or to metal jigs and gotcha plugs cast into feeding schools, while Common Snook round out the cove's species list.
