About Car Bodies Reef
Car Bodies Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf State Waters off Pensacola, part of the Panhandle Region's network of placed structure. The reef draws bottom species and pelagics alike, with Gag Grouper peaking October through December, Sheepshead January through March, Cobia March through June, and Gray Snapper May through August. King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel hold over the structure from April through October, when slow trolling live cigar minnows or live menhaden targets the kings and trolling small spoons or straw rigs works the Spanish. Bottom fishing dominates over the reef itself, with live pinfish and frozen sardines for grouper, live shrimp and cut bait for Gray Snapper, and fiddler crabs or sand fleas for Sheepshead. Cobia cruising the structure in spring respond to sight casting with bucktail jigs or live eels.
