About Caucus Shoal

Caucus Shoal is an exposed sand flat off Pensacola, Florida, in the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters, with bottom depths running from 60 to 90 feet. Red drum peak here in September and October, and bottom fishing with cut mullet, cut menhaden, or live finger mullet holds baits down on the open sand. Spotted seatrout run strongest from March through May and again in October and November, when bottom jigging with soft plastic grubs or live shrimp on jigheads works the deeper water. Spanish mackerel move through from April to October, and trolling small spoons, straw rigs, or small diving plugs across the shoal covers ground efficiently. Common snook also appear on the target list for this stretch of the Pensacola coast.
