About Robertson Island
Robertson Island sits in the protected inner bay waters near Pensacola, where sand bottom runs 10 to 25 feet deep in the Florida Gulf State Waters Panhandle Region. Red Drum peak here in September and October, Sheepshead in January through March, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel across a long window from April through October, with Common Snook also among the resident targets. Red Drum respond to inshore casting with soft plastic jerkbaits, jigheads with paddletails, and gold spoons worked over the sand flats, while popping cork fishing with live shrimp draws strikes in the shallower edges. Sheepshead and Gray Snapper hold close to the bottom in the deeper 20 to 25 foot water, where bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp produces steady action. Spanish Mackerel push through the open bay during the warm months, and trolling small spoons and straw rigs or casting metal jigs and gotcha plugs covers water efficiently when schools move through.
