About Redoubt Bayou
Redoubt Bayou is a protected inner bay near Pensacola, Florida, with a soft mud bottom and depths of 5 to 10 feet. Red Drum peak in September and October, when inshore casting with soft plastic jerkbaits, jigheads with paddletails, gold spoons, and topwater plugs covers the shallow mud flats. Sheepshead take over from January through March and respond to bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, sand fleas, and oysters. Gray Snapper hold here from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel run from April through October for anglers casting metal jigs, gotcha plugs, small spoons, and bucktail jigs. Common Snook round out the species list in these sheltered Panhandle waters.
