About Jones Point
Jones Point is an exposed outer drop-off off Pensacola, Florida, where a sand bottom falls away from 260 to 660 feet within the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead peak from January through March, Spanish mackerel run from April through October, gray snapper peak from May through August, and red drum peak in September and October. Along the drop-off, bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pinfish, cut bait, or squid targets gray snapper, while fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and oysters fished on the bottom draw sheepshead. Spanish mackerel respond to trolled small spoons, straw rigs, and small diving plugs. Red drum take live finger mullet and cut menhaden fished on the bottom, and common snook round out the species list at the spot.
