About Deer Point
Deer Point is an exposed, sand-bottom drop-off off Pensacola, Florida, within the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. The spot holds Red Drum, which peak in September and October, Sheepshead from January through March, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel across a long April-to-October window, along with Common Snook. The drop-off falls from 260 to 660 feet, and anglers work its edge with bottom fishing rigs baited with live shrimp, cut bait, live pinfish, or squid for Gray Snapper. In winter the same bottom-fishing approach shifts to fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and oysters for Sheepshead, while Red Drum take cut mullet and cut menhaden fished on the sand. Higher in the water column, Spanish Mackerel respond to trolled small spoons, straw rigs, and small diving plugs through the warm months.
