About Grassy Point
Grassy Point is a sand-bottom drop-off off Pensacola, Florida, in the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters, where an exposed outer edge falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Red Drum peak here from September through October, Sheepshead from January through March, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel across a long April-to-October window, with Common Snook also on the target list. Gray Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pinfish, cut bait, or squid worked along the drop, and frozen chum draws them up off the sand. Sheepshead hold to the same bottom and take fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp fished tight to the structure. Through the warm months, anglers troll small spoons, straw rigs, and small diving plugs over the edge for Spanish Mackerel, then switch to casting metal jigs and gotcha plugs when the fish show at the surface.
