About Macky Bay
Macky Bay is a protected inner bay near Pensacola, Florida, with a sand bottom running 10 to 25 feet deep in the Panhandle region's state waters. Red Drum peak in September and October, when inshore casting with gold spoons, paddletail jigheads, and topwater plugs covers the sand flats effectively. Sheepshead take over from January through March and respond to bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, and sand fleas. Gray Snapper peak from May through August on live shrimp and live pinfish fished on the bottom, while Spanish Mackerel run from April through October and fall to trolled small spoons and straw rigs or cast metal jigs and gotcha plugs. Common Snook round out the bay's species list, and its sheltered water keeps these depths fishable across the seasons.
