About Murphys Cove
Murphys Cove is a protected bay pocket near Pensacola, Florida, with a sand bottom and depths running from 5 to 25 feet in the sheltered inner waters of the Panhandle. Red Drum peak here in September and October, when inshore casting with jigheads with paddletails, gold spoons, and topwater plugs works the sand flats and shallow edges. Sheepshead take over from January through March, and bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, and sand fleas puts baits in front of fish holding along the deeper sections. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pinfish, and cut bait. Spanish Mackerel run from April through October and fall to trolling small spoons and straw rigs or casting metal jigs and gotcha plugs, while Common Snook round out the species list for the cove.
