About Pensacola Beach Pier
Pensacola Beach Pier extends from the sand into the open Gulf of Mexico in Florida's Panhandle state waters, putting anglers over nearshore water well beyond the surf line. Spanish Mackerel dominate the warm months from April through October, and casting metal jigs, gotcha plugs, or small spoons into passing schools is the standard approach from the rails. Gray Snapper peak from May through August around the pilings, where bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, or live pinfish works the structure directly beneath the deck. Red Drum push through in September and October and take live finger mullet, cut mullet, or cut menhaden fished on the bottom, and Common Snook also turn up along the pier. In winter the focus shifts to Sheepshead, which peak from January through March and pick fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp off the barnacle-covered pilings.
