About Range Point
Range Point is an outer, exposed drop-off off Pensacola in the Florida Panhandle, where a sand bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Red drum peak here in September and October, sheepshead from January through March, gray snapper from May through August, and Spanish mackerel across a long April-to-October window, with common snook also on the target list. Bottom fishing is the dominant approach for both gray snapper and sheepshead along the sand edge, with live shrimp serving both species and live pinfish, squid, fiddler crabs, and sand fleas rounding out the bait options. Red drum respond to bottom-fished cut mullet, cut menhaden, and live finger mullet. Spanish mackerel fall to trolled small spoons, straw rigs, and small diving plugs worked above the drop.
