About Sabine Point
Sabine Point is an outer, exposed drop-off off Pensacola in the Florida Panhandle, where a sand bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Red Drum peak here in September and October, Sheepshead in January through March, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel across a long April-to-October window, with Common Snook also on the target list. Along the slope, bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, live pinfish, or squid produces Gray Snapper, and chumming with frozen chum or cut bait holds them near the boat. Sheepshead anglers work the same bottom with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp, while Red Drum respond to cut mullet, cut menhaden, and live finger mullet fished on the bottom. Higher in the water column, trolling small spoons, straw rigs, and small diving plugs covers ground for Spanish Mackerel through the warm months.
