About Trout Point
Trout Point is an exposed sand flat on the outer edge of the Pensacola shoreline, with depths running from the wading shallows out to about 20 feet. Red Drum peak here in September and October, when inshore casting with gold spoons, topwater plugs, and jigheads with paddletails covers the open sand efficiently. Spanish Mackerel run from April through October and respond to small spoons and straw rigs on the troll, or to metal jigs and gotcha plugs cast into feeding schools. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and take live shrimp and cut bait fished on the bottom along the deeper edge of the flat. In winter, Sheepshead peak from January through March and hold for fiddler crabs and sand fleas on bottom rigs, while Common Snook round out the species list on the flat.
