About Bahia Beach Reef

Bahia Beach Reef is an artificial reef in the Tampa Bay region off St. Petersburg, Florida, where placed structure draws reef-oriented fish throughout the year. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, followed by Common Snook from April through June and Gray Snapper from May through August. Spanish Mackerel move through in spring from March to May and again in September and October, while Red Drum peak in August and September and Spotted Seatrout show best in March–April and October–November. Bottom fishing tight to the reef structure with live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp targets sheepshead and gray snapper, and chumming with live pilchards pulls snapper up off the structure. Above the reef, casting small spoons and metal jigs works schooling Spanish Mackerel, and live scaled sardines or live pinfish draw strikes from snook holding near the structure.
