About Cockroach Channel Hump
Cockroach Channel Hump is a rock pinnacle rising from 45 to 85 feet of water on the outer, exposed edge of the Tampa Bay region off St. Petersburg, Florida. Gray Snapper hold tight to the rock from May through August, while Sheepshead stack on the structure from January through March. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, or knocker rigs takes snapper along the pinnacle's flanks, and live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and oysters fished on the bottom draw sheepshead to the rock. Spanish Mackerel push through in March–May and September–October and respond to small spoons, metal jigs, and live bait chumming with live scaled sardines. Red Drum in August–September, Common Snook in April–June, and Spotted Seatrout in March–April and October–November round out the roster, with live pilchards and live shrimp producing across all three.
