About Dunedin Reef
Dunedin Reef is an artificial reef in Florida's Gulf state waters within the Tampa Bay region, near St. Petersburg. Its structure holds Gag Grouper, which peak from October through December, and Sheepshead, which take over from January through March. Bottom fishing produces both species: live pinfish and frozen sardines work for grouper, and live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp suit sheepshead. Spanish Mackerel run in March through May and again in September and October, and King Mackerel follow a similar spring and late-summer-into-fall pattern, drawing anglers to cast small spoons for Spanish and slow-troll live threadfin herring or scaled sardines for kings. Gray Snapper settle on the reef from May through August and respond to live shrimp fished on the bottom, while Cobia pass through in March and April and again in September and October, when sight casting with live pinfish or bucktail jigs puts baits in front of them.
