About Skyway Fishing Pier State Park
Skyway Fishing Pier State Park is a public fishing pier near St. Petersburg that extends over open water in the Tampa Bay region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead lead the year from January through March, followed by Spanish Mackerel in March through May and again in September and October, and Spotted Seatrout in March–April and October–November. Common Snook peak from April through June, Gray Snapper hold from May through August, and Red Drum arrive in August and September. Around the pier's pilings, anglers target Gray Snapper and Sheepshead with bottom fishing, using live shrimp and knocker rigs for snapper and live fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or oysters for sheepshead. Spanish Mackerel respond to casting small spoons and metal jigs, while Snook and Red Drum take live bait fishing with live scaled sardines, live pinfish, and live pilchards.
