About Black Point
Black Point is a drop-off along the Tampa shoreline of the Tampa Bay region, where an exposed edge of mixed bottom falls away into deeper water. Gray Snapper hold along this structure from May through August, and Sheepshead take over the same edge from January through March. Spotted Seatrout move through in March–April and again in October–November, Common Snook peak from April to June, Red Drum arrive in force from August through October, and Spanish Mackerel run in March–May and September–October. Bottom fishing with live shrimp or fiddler crabs works the mixed bottom along the drop for snapper and sheepshead, while chumming with live scaled sardines pulls snapper and Spanish Mackerel up off the edge. Snook and redfish respond to live pilchards and pinfish worked along the break, and Spanish Mackerel hit silver spoons and gotcha plugs cast into feeding schools over the deeper water.
