About Harbour Island
Harbour Island is a sand-bottom drop-off in Tampa's section of the Tampa Bay region, where depths fall from the shallows to around 50 feet along an exposed outer edge. Sheepshead lead the calendar from January through March, and Spanish Mackerel move through in March to May and again in September and October. Gray Snapper peak from May through August, while Common Snook peak from April to June, Spotted Seatrout in March–April and October–November, and Red Drum from August through October. Bottom fishing along the drop-off with live shrimp or fiddler crabs targets Sheepshead, and live shrimp, live pinfish, or cut bait work the same edge for Gray Snapper. Over the shallower sand, casting silver spoons or small jigs intercepts Spanish Mackerel, and live bait fishing with live pilchards draws Common Snook and Red Drum.
